Musical Interlude

The long Icelandic nights are an opportunity to organise my films from the past few years. At last, I've made the decision to upload them to YouTube.

Here's the first film. It is a little blurry and indistinct, but I am very fond of it. Turning was filmed on my first night in Greenland, and it features a rotary candlestick with little tin angels which became a favourite talisman.

Mirabeau Performance

Mirabeau went down a storm at our first London performance. One audience member was heard to compare the concoction of words and chords to chamber music, though our final number, Richard Price's 'Last Train', owed more to the Rolling Stones than Schubert. The compositions of the talented Caroline Trettine (above) added depth to the simplest verses and Ian Kearey's light-fingered guembe accompaniment to my poem 'Astrolatry' (a translation of a ballad by Sorley MacLean) evoked the magic of space travel.

Sleep With Me

Sleep with me, a new cd single by the singer-songwriter Caroline Trettine, is now available. Each copy of this limited impression comes in a beautiful hand-made case, which I designed and printed earlier this year.

The Mirabeau Project

I’ve been recording poems in a Brighton studio with The Mirabeau Project, a new band formed to celebrate the lyric. The band comprises Richard Price (poet), Caroline Trettine (composition and voice) and Ian Kearey (musician). Several poems will be featured on the forthcoming album, including Think of a Card, Big Kiss, Dove Song and new versions of Astrolatry and Edward the Exile.
